Anointed to Finish
By Daryl O’Neil
There is much discussion today about the ministry of the Apostle. As we seek understanding concerning this gift, we can look to Christ the Apostle to see dimensions of this grace that are in operation today. It is my desire for you to know, you can do extraordinary things for God!
We are living in apostolic times…a time of restoration of the ministry of the gift of the apostle to the body of Christ. Jesus must be our perfect pattern of the grace of Apostle! Hebrews 3:1 calls Jesus the Apostle & High Priest of our profession. As one who was sent with a mandate, Jesus finished His work. In fact, it was His passion. Jesus said in the gospel of John 4:34 'My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work'. We are people who live by mandate of the Spirit.
We must be aware, the mark of a healthy believer is, he finishes what he starts! We are pursuing the finish. It is not a passive mentality but a focused, purposed and aggressive Kingdom mentality.
Jesus is spoken of in the word of God as the author & finisher of our faith…Hebrews 12:2 says' Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Let it be very clear, when the Lord begins something He finishes it.
It takes a certain type of people to finish the work. Philippians 1:6 states' Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. In order to complete the work, we must have the apostolic spirit, the Holy Spirit. The Apostolic spirit produces a people who have a passion to finish the work.
The Holy Spirit is raising up an apostolic company of believers that will reap the harvest of God, by being ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Let's take a look at a group of ordinary people who did some extraordinary things and know this is God's will for you.
Acts 6:6-8 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
Stephen was a deacon, who did extraordinary things by the power of the Holy Spirit. An ordinary deacon doing miracles? This is the will of God. Most deacons just collect the offering and lead prayer service! Stephen was not an apostle, but did incredible wonders. This can be you, empowered by the apostolic Spirit, the Holy Spirit.
Phillip is another example of an apostolic person who was not an apostle, but did extraordinary things.
Acts 8:5-8 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city. It is not just enough to be saved. We must embrace the idea we are to be sent.
Apostolic people are sent. The Greek word for apostle is 'apostolos' which means “a sent one” There is another word very similar 'apostello' which just means sent which refers to believers. The Holy Spirit is being poured out on a people to make them an apostolic people. People who are forceful in advancing the kingdom. A people who live by mandate.
The Holy Spirit is Apostolic. Let’s take a look at some scripture to see clearly this point. The Holy Spirit has been sent...Jn 14:26; 16:7,8 & Acts 2:4 The Holy Spirit sends. Is 48:16; Is 61:1 The Holy Spirit initiates apostolic activity...as on the Day of Pentecost, the result was the activation of true apostolic ministry. (Acts 2) The Holy Spirit is apostolic because He is a member of the Godhead. The Father sent Jesus into the world...Jesus indicated that the Father is responsible to hear our prayers and send forth workers to reap the harvest…Mt 9:38.
In the book 'The Gift of the Apostle' by Pastor David Cannistraci, he gives 10 characteristics of people with the finishing mentality. I pray these attributes become a part of your regular walk with Christ. These attributes can be found in Acts chapter 2.
Those who are anointed to finish the work are:
1.relational…they were in one accord fellowshipping and breaking bread Acts 2:46
2. vibrant…they radiated enthusiasm & passion for what God was doing. Acts 2:41 joy was upon them.
3. Reverent…they were possessed with a sober fear & awe for God
4.Focused...they were steadfast in their purpose
5. Unselfish…..acts 2:44
6.Positive……they were praising God…not mumbling about how tough things are
7.Attractive…magnetic people acts 2:42
8.Anointed…..they were full of the Holy Spirits power
9.Bold….boldness is essential in these times
10.Progressive……they formed a new wineskin…open for the new mentalities from God to advance…not bound by tradition.
The Holy Spirit is your helper, you are anointed to finish the work!!
